Delays on the goose

Delays on the goose
all hell breaks loose
the bikes are backed up badly
the line is long
it's a random throng
the signer signals sadly
she let's us through we pedal fast
no one wants to be the last
late to work is time delayed
late to work is time unpaid
delays on the goose
I'm pedalling madly
Another delay
some guys in the way
an old fart feebly fumbling
I know him well
I ring my bell
I make out murd'rous mumbling
he shakes his stick but not at me
at something none of us can see
carefully I ride on by
cheerfully I do say hi
delays on the goose
there's no point grumbling.
pedalling hard, pedalling fast
while I can it may not last
gearing up, gearing down
out to work or in to town
rain or shine, speed along
plan for work or write a song
there's no delay right now
there's no delay right now
Delays on the goose
there is no truce
with dogs that dart in danger
the SPCA
is right in the way
each stray is strapped to its stranger
some are held off to one side
I pass 'em quickly as I ride
but some believe they own the trail
and bikes should learn to race a snail
delays on the goose
we need a park ranger.
pedalling hard, pedalling fast
while I can it may not last
gearing up, gearing down
out to work or in to town
go great guns when the going's good
past the warehouse, through the wood
there's no delay right now
there's no delay right now
